BBTSA

The British Baton Twirling Sports Association saw many changes over the years. Evolving from the original majorette association to a baton twirling sport association. So many wonderful people who volunteered their time, expertise and commitment for all young people around Great Britain to have fun, learn fantastic skills and to make everlasting friends.

HOW THE BBTSA BEGAN

In 1973, Audrey O’Neill started the Thurrock Bellettes troupe in South Ockendon. She got the idea as the boys on her estate used to get dressed up for their marching band practise which the girls weren’t allowed to be part of.

Over the 53 years of the BBTSA, previously the BMA (British Majorette Association) there have been 9 chairpersons…Terry Hopley in 1971 through to Nicky O’Neill who joined the NEC Board in 2004 and was the BBTSA’s final chairperson.
